CHISTOPHER REEVE: AN EXAMPLE OF OVERCOMING


Christopher D’Olivier Reeve was born on September 25, 1952, in New York City, NY, USA. He was an American actor, film director, producer, screenwriter, author and activist, well-known by his role as Clark Kent and Superman in the set of Superman movies.


On May 25, 1995, he was surprised by adversity when he got quadriplegic after being thrown from a horse in an equestrian club competition in Virginia.
He got paralyzed from neck down, however he didn’t stop desiring to continue to be alive and started searching for treatment, including in Israel where there were researches with stem cells to heal and to rehabilitate spinal cord injuries.


He didn’t give up and fought on behalf of people with spinal cord injuries and for human embryonic stem cells research.

Before his death, he founded the Christopher Reeve Foundation and co-founded the Reeve-Irvine Research Center and his example will encourage a lot of people in the next generations to fight to promote the rights of the people with disabilities, as well as to promote researches using stem cells as an ethically correct mean.
